Book Reviews

This book is so thoughtful and helpful. I loved the straightforward, no-nonsense approach in teaching the various different methods of making the math work for you.
The author goes through a number of different strategies that can help you identify your most important tips to save you money. This book pulls together, in one place, many ways to save money, including online savings tips, food/groceries, home expenses, healthcare, electronics, entertainment, and travel. This makes it easy to jump straight to any area you want to save money in. Readers of this book will gain a deeper understanding of the importance of financial stability and learn how improving their financial situation can positively influence their mental, emotional, and physical health. One of my favorite parts of this book is the spreadsheets in the last chapter. I was able to print them off from my kindle version and use them immediately. I wish there had been a book like this when I was growing up and learning how to manage my money. The author Suzette Wheeler has done a lot of research to put this book together. She breaks down these chapters and makes them easy to understand and follow. You can read straight through or skip around to the different chapters. I really enjoyed this book. I think it's a great resource and others will find it interesting.

Math Hack Secrets is the kind of practical, no-fluff guide that makes you wonder why this stuff didn’t make sense in school. From the very first chapter, it introduces a simple but powerful tool: the money keeping journal — a habit-shifting system where you don’t just track what you spend, you track what you save and actually deposit those savings. Its budgeting turned into a series of daily wins.
This book is all about making math work for you. It’s packed with clear, concise strategies that are instantly applicable. You don’t need to be a math expert; you just need a willingness to be intentional. The hacks are straightforward, the logic is solid, and the results are measurable.
Whether you’re a lifelong numbers-phobe or just looking to sharpen your financial habits, Math Hack Secrets delivers the kind of real-world value that goes beyond the page.

Honestly, I wish I had this back when I was in school. It breaks things down in a way that actually makes sense, without all the confusing jargon. Some of the tips are super clever—I caught myself going, “Why didn’t anyone show me this before?” It’s not super long or overwhelming, just practical stuff that helps make math feel way less intimidating. Great for brushing up or helping someone else out too.
